A Sarah Funny

This evening Sarah was rummaging through the cabinets while I was working in the kitchen. She was asking questions and I was half-listening because I was busy working. So, when she held up a platter and asked, "Mommy, what's this for?" I quickly answered, "Oh, that's for deviled eggs."

She got real quiet then.

Finally she looked up at me and whispered, "Mommy...why do you make them for the devil?"

  1. That's sweet. Now I have to know, did you tell her what they really were or did you have a little fun with it?

  2. No Rhyah, I'm not that quick. I'd already gotten a good chuckle out of it anyway. I ended up telling her that the eggs weren't FOR the devil, but instead that people had just come up with a silly name for some food. She seemed to understand and went on her way.

You know, as a parent, you expect to get the hard questions like "Where do babies come from?" but no one ever tells you to prepare for deep questions like "Why do we make eggs for the devil?"!
