Change of Plans

Remember the post a while back where I declared that, since this property was already producing apples, peaches, pears, plums, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, grapes, hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans, and asparagus..I was only going to plant beans, tomatoes, corn, and sunflowers this year. Remember that? I didn't want to bite off more than we could chew this first year. Well, those plans didn't last long.

Right now we have planned to plant: beans, tomatoes, corn, sunflowers...AND potatoes, carrots, okra, onion, jalapeno pepper, pumpkin, watermelon and bell peppers. This summer when I don't have two functioning brain cells to rub together, feel free to say, "Woman, you knew better."

Oh, and we're getting chicks next week too.

  1. Yeesh. That's a big garden. Just think of all the great meals you will get out of that.

I wish I had the patience and stamina for that kind of thing. Unfortunately about half way through the summer I get bored and stop watering. Oh well. I can't be great at everything. :)

  2. Aaah yes! You have been bitten by the bug. While you will be a crazy woman during all of this, you will stand back and smile at the end of harvest. The satisfaction and blessings that you feel as you look upon the fruits of your labor is simply like no other. God bless.

  3. you will love having chicks....Jay is into his "chicks", he has built a new pen and we have 10 full grown, which are producing about 8 eggs a day, and we have 7 more babys that we are waiting till they get their full feathers to put them out in the old pen. That is Jay's hobby and I call them "his chicks". I even bought him an incubater for christmas and he just put his first 4 eggs in to hatch. I am hoping they do because he and the kids are so excited.
